PRUDENCE SPRATT | TECH-STRAORDINARY ENTREPRENEUR #Proudprofile
Her Twitter bio describes her as a lover of “all that is tech” – and it’s easy to understand why – tech has been part of her life since before she was even born! Whilst pregnant with Prudence, her mother – a former computer trainer – met Bill Gates at a Trade Show in Sydney. So, growing up, there was always a computer in the home – and Prudence enjoyed nothing more than using it. In fact, she began coding websites when she was just 14!
Born in Australia and raised both there and in sunny South Africa, Prue (as she is affectionately known) developed a love for travel early in life. After finishing her undergrad studies at WITS she alternated between work and travel, before moving to London, where she was a Program Manager at Cisco for two years. Returning back to SA in 2010, she hit the ground running – juggling a full-time job as eCommerce Product Manager at Vodacom and completing her MBA at GIBS, simultaneously. Near the end of 2013 – clearly no stranger to hard work – Prue took the plunge and established her own Digital Consultancy, Spratt Consulting.
Now in its third year – the ‘make or break’ year for start-ups, supposedly – Spratt Consulting keeps Prue busy in all the best ways. As Founder and Managing Director, she does a bit of everything when it comes to helping her small business to flourish – from Project Management to Sales and beyond
(Not to mention admin, between it all). The company’s main focus is on eCommerce projects, but clients with any digital requirement will find themselves in perfectly capable hands. Her advice to others entering into the tech space is to follow their passion; find the sector that you enjoy most and put your all into succeeding there. Why? Because when you love the work you do, like Prue does, all of the elements of your work that you don’t like as much become much more manageable.
Prue is motivated by her awesome Spratt Consulting team and other passionate, like-minded “techies” working in the South African space. With equal optimism and determination, she tackles both the reward of exciting new projects and the challenges of entrepreneurship. If ever a career in doing exactly what she loves isn’t enough to get her out of bed in the morning, the threat of her two Labradors (and their early-morning appetites) eating her couches always does the trick! When she’s all grown up, Prue wants to be just an older version of herself; a hard worker with a big heart and an appetite for success.
